As a wine fan for decades, I’ve tasted many wines, but I’ve never encountered a winemaker whose wines are as true to the taste of the grape—whether pure or blended—as those of Scribner Bend.
Award-Winning Sauvignon Blanc
One of the standout moments during my visit the other day was tasting their 2022 Sauvignon Blanc, which recently earned the prestigious title of “Best Wine in California” in its category. This wine beat out well-known names like Coppola and many other Napa and Sonoma wineries.
Earning the distinction of “THE BEST 2022 Sauvignon Blanc in California” is no small feat. It’s not just a tremendous honor, but it has seismic effects that will ripple through the California wine industry. For a wine to claim this title is truly historic!
I had the privilege of tasting this exceptional wine before it was made available to the public. In a private tasting session with Cuong Quoc Tran, the winemaker at Scribner Bend, I got an early preview of what would soon be recognized as one of the best wines in California.
A Blind Tasting Experience
Cuong had a special wine he wanted to share with me, and asking if I would be willing to share my thoughts once we were done. I suggested a blind tasting, which he graciously accepted.
From the first taste all the way through to the lasting impression it left on my palate, I knew I was drinking something special. I confidently guessed that it was the 2022 Sauvignon Blanc, and when I shared my thoughts, Cuong was both surprised and impressed.
He then revealed that it had won the Best of California title at the California State Fair. At that moment, I felt incredibly lucky to have experienced such greatness before it was even available to the public.
